What pets do for kids.

There are dozens of studies that show how useful pet companionship is to kids.

Research shows what pet lovers have known forever.

Kids love to have their own pets because pets love uncritically. Kids can confide their secrets to a pet. This is especially important when kids have trouble at school, if there are family squabbles or some other family problem. One survey by Brenda Bryant, professor of human development at University of California in 1990, showed that pets teach kids about mutuality, enduring affection and self-enhancing affection.

Caring for a pet also teaches us responsibility.

There are the practical matters such as making sure the pet is properly exercised, fed and played with. Then there are more ethereal issues such as connecting with nature and learning respect for other living creatures.

Important life lessons learned from pets involve thinking about reproduction, illness, vaccination,, accidents, death and bereavement.

Although pet ownership confers man benefits, animals are big responsibility to take on. The whole family must be invested so that the pet lives a healthy, happy life. In the case of dogs and cats, this can mean 15 years or even more.

If the family is ready to adopt a pet, age is a consideration. Although every child is different, a suggested rule of thumb is that kids under the age of 6 are a little too unhandy to deal with delicate animals like kittens and puppies. A slightly older animal that’s 8-12 months old is often a better choice.

If you’re a new pet lover and uncertain how to go about choosing a suitable pet, talk to a pet rescuer living in your area. These people have a wealth of experience and are usually delighted to help. Not only it does good to kids, it also does good to adults. They are then able to learn the responsibility of taking care of them, have companionship and so on. Pets are actually a huge comfort, especially if you’re having a rough time.
